Daphne Owers keeps the spirit of indie pop alive and kicking through her repertoire of songs that have been exciting audiences in New Zealand and Germany for over eight years.

Her musical influences come from British artists such as The Smiths, Morrissey, The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, Billy Bragg and the Pet Shop Boys, from American artists including The Pixies, The Ramones and Patti Smith, and from several New Zealand artists including The Chills, The Exponents and Karen Hunter.

Her musical arrangements can be as simple as a lone acoustic guitar and voice or in contrast, a rock-out band sound, complete with two electric guitars and backing vocals.

Her lyrics speak principally of love, hope, longing, fear, desire and devotion, or more simply, of ‘misery and happiness’. Her songs are undeniably personal yet carry a general appeal, by avoiding superficial simplicities and overly-earnest pretensions.

Based in Berlin, Germany, Daphne Owers regularly performs solo and with band The Modern Pants in bars and clubs around Berlin and is currently finishing her solo debut-album, 'Foreign Lover'.
